Trivia
- This match was long delayed due to fixture congestion and bad weather earlier in the season. As it was the game was played after the unofficial close of the season after a depleted Rangers side had been beaten 4-0 by Third Lanark in the semi-final at Cathkin Park 2 days before this game. The game was played at Hampden Park on the Friday afternoon.
- On the 2nd May Pat Crerand and Billy McNeill played for Scotland against Uruguay in a 3-2 defeat at Hampden – a match that was described as a war.
- Duncan MacKay was absent having chipped his elbow.
- Also on the 2nd May John Kurila was released by Celtic. Kurila had languished in the reserves this season even dropping down to play with the B side in the Combined Reserve League.
Review
