Trivia 1973 SCSF ticket Celtic v Dundee

  • Following the match against Motherwell at Celtic Park the squad decamped to Seamills as was their usual procedure before the big games.
  • Jock Stein took in the other semi-final at Hampden on the Wednesday night when Rangers won through by beating Ayr Utd 2-0.
  • Jinky not in Seamill party but was named sub for the game with Harry Hood taken ill. Back in comes Bobby Murdoch with Davie Hay moving to the no. 10 shirt and Harry Hood dropping out.
  • Dundee played 4-5-1 and the game did not catch on until 80 minutes. It was a continual game of Celtic attacking and looking for the breaks with Dundee defending their area with inside left Jocky Scott regularly back in his own penalty area.
  • Dundee played in unfamiliar strip of white shirts, blue shorts and red socks.

Review

Dundee are slated in the press for their defensive tactics. Only when Johnstone appears in the last 10 minutes do Celtic have any cohesion and the wee man seems certain to start in the replay.
In the aftermath Davie White says that Dundee played for a win. Jock Stein replies that Dundee played for a draw and draws are no good in a Cup competition. He also notes the change in fortunes when Jinky was on for the last 10 minutes.
