- The knee injury to Brian McLaughlin sustained in the game against Clyde at the weekend was a serious one and he would be out for some time. Steve Murray had also been unwell after that game and had not trained on the Monday.

A packed Fir Park enjoyed a cracking cup tie as the sun set over Motherwell with the steel works discharged smoke into the night air.
With the new offside rules in place Celtic played Johnstone and Lennox through the middle and their pace was a constant threat.
Hood scored the first goal after Dalglish swung over a cross from the left and Johnstone touched it on to allow Harry to fire home. Murray scored his first Celtic goal with the second after Johnstone and Hood had set him up.
Goldthorpe scored for 'Well but he was lucky to be on the park after a previous assault on Ally Hunter.
