Glasgow Herald 1st October 1888
The Celtic entertained the Airdrieonians on their own ground. In Dalmarnock Street, Parkhead, and the fixture caused some little interest in the district, after the fine appearance the home men made against the Cowlairs in the cup tie a week ago. Fully 1000 persons watched the game. The ground was a little soft. The Airdrieonians played off against the wind, and the kicking on both sides, was more often, ornamental than useful, though the Celts had decidedly the best of it, keeping the ball in dangerous proximity to the Airdrieonians' goal. Several times the shots they sent in were only saved by good goalkeeping, and more than one injudicious aim was equally effective. McCallum and O'Connor in succession put on points for the Celtic, and the game at half-time, which had been characterised by the splendid play on the part of the home team stood:- Celtic, 2 goals; Airdrieonians, 1 goal.
In the second half the Celtic had it nearly all their own way, and the result was :- Celtic, 4 goals; Airdrieonians, 1 goal.
The Celtic did not so effectively dispose of the Airdrieonians as they did their opponents on the preceding Saturday, for th e visitors were able to score a point, though only against the local team's four.
