Stats
From newspaper reports from the time.
The Celtic played a friendly game against the Thistle on Beechwood Park, Glasgow. There was a good attendance. the Celtic played four second eleven men.
The Celtic kicked off, but the Thistle, mainly through the instrumentality of Izatt, took the ball to the other end, where they had a throw in. The ball, however, was kicked up the field by Dowling, and Groves dribbled to the other end, when the ball was sent past. The Thistle again assumed the aggressive, playing with great determination, but their shooting was erratic. The Celts retaliated, and scored, but a foul being given previously, the point was disallowed.
From the free kick given in front of the goal the Thistle cleared their lines, but McKeown stepped in and sent the ball to Kelly, who scored, the first point being gained for the Celts about ten minutes after the start. A few minutes later the Irishmen gained their second point from the right. the Thistle played most determinedly up till half-time, their backs, especially Dewar, doing their utmost, but their forwards could not score.
At half-time the score stood – Celtic, 2 goals; Thistle 0.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Eaglesham scored the first point for the Thistle from a good combined run by the front division. the home side still pressed, and Dewar sent in a long shot, which went just past the post. twenty minutes after the start the Thistle equalised out of a scrimmage. The Thistle continued to besiege the Celtic goal, and scored their third point a minute afterwards, Campbell doing the needful. the home had now decidedly the best of the game, and again sent the ball through. The point, however, was disputed, and the referee decided in favour of the Celts.
Up till the close the game was closely contested, but there was no further scoring.
The result was:- Thistle, 3 goals; Celtic, 2 goals.
