Report 1

The Celtic and the Northern played off their North-Eastern Cup tie on Celtic Park before a large crowd. Groves kicked off for the Celts, who were at first driven back, and the ball went past. By dint of some excellent passing, the Celts then took the ball to the other side, where the ball went behind. For ten minutes the game continued very even, and then, after a combined run, McLeod put the ball clean through, scoring the first goal for the visitors.
The ball had hardly been set in motion again ere the home team surrounded the Northern, and an exciting struggle took place, Burnside just managed to save his charge at the expense of a corner. Not to be denied, however, the Celts returned immediately, and Dunbar equalised, Groves sharing the honour. It was not until the game was 35 minutes old that the Northern goal was again seriously threatened, at which time the Celtic obtained two corners in succession, but Burnside defended well, and the besiegers were forced to retire.
After a short visit by the Northern, Groves got on the ball and made for Burnside, but Nisbet stopped his progress. A free kick then fell to the home team, from which the ball was put through, but as it did not touch anyone it did not count. The result at half-time was thus one each.
The home team were first to look in, in the second half, Burnside having to concede a corner in stopping a swift shot by Kelly. Davis and Downs, who had been doing some excellent work all along, then got on the ball, with the result that play was transferred to the other end.
Ten minutes from the start a well combined attack was made on the visitors' citadel, and McCallum scored a second point for the Celtic. Continuing to press, an exceedingly beautiful bit of passing, in which all the Celtic forwards engaged, was witnessed, and once more the Northern goal was in danger. The Celtic front rank was now playing exceptionally well, and the half-backs, Kelly especially, kept them well at work, and ultimately the visitor's goal again succumbed, Coleman doing the necessary.
A few minutes later a fourth point was added by the same player, who came in and supported Groves, who on the point of shooting was tackled by the opposing backs.
The result at the end was:- Celtic, 4 goals; Northern 1 goal.

Report 2

At Celtic Park, the Celts disposed of the Northern in their North-eastern cup tie. The Springburn clubs forwards played with great dash and determination at the outset, but after changing ends the Irishmen had matters their own way, and the result of some pretty passing was that they scored three goals, winning easily in the end by four goals to one.
The final tie falls to be played between the Cowlairs and the Celtic. It is believed that the Cowlairs, the present holders of the cup, will be able to put a very strong team in the field, and will leave nothing undone to retain the trophy.
