Sunderland v Celtic – The famous Celtic team visited the Wearside borough and met Sunderland under extremely favourable conditions, there being a very full “gate” at double prices. The Celtic met with a very popular reception. The combination included four internationals and Groves, the well-known centre forward. A hard game resulted in a win for the Celtic by one goal to nil.
