Stats
From newspaper reports from the time
The Celtic kicked off, and, headed by Groves, made a raid on the St Mirren goal, where Tom Maley, owing to the greasy state of the ball and ground, missed a chance, and the ball went past. Again returning to the attack, the Celts forced Rose to kick out. The St Mirren then turned the tide of affairs, and the ball was sent past twice at the Celtic end. A fast run ensued towards the Saints' end, but it was stopped, and once more play was transferred to the Celts' goal, where the ball went past. For a considerable time the Saints confined their opponents to their own ground, but though the famous Paisley combination got some openings, the state of the ground, especially at the Celtic's end, made true shooting difficult. A foul against the Celtic in front of their goal looked dangerous, but they cleared beautifully. At last the Celts came away, and got within easy shooting distance ultimately receiving a corner, which, however, came to nothing. The St Mirren worked their way down field, but by a neat bit off passing the Celtic returned, and an exciting moment was spent at the saints' goal. A foul only came of it, and some even play followed. The St Mirren were making a most determined stand against the Celtic, and all round compared favourably with their rivals. Groves roused the Celtic's supporters by a fine run, but finally was compelled to run the ball close past the Saints' goal. The St Mirren also experienced hard lines in not scoring. Just on the call of half-time, Tom Maley missed a grand chance by shooting just a little too high. The first half finished without any goals being scored on either side.
On commencement of the second half the Celtic came out minus Dowds, who had again hurt his foot after an injury he received last Saturday. Shortly after the start Groves scored. Again pressing, the Celtic nearly scored, Groves sending in a tremendous shot which Rose saved splendidly. The St Mirren then made a determined attack, and, by good-luck McLaughlin saved. The St Mirren had another run up, and Reynolds, failing to stop Dunlop, that player had only McLaughlin to face. The latter was equal to the occasion, and the play then progressed on equal lines. A corner fell to each team in succession, but, though both were well placed, they came to nothing. the remainder of the second half, which was only of 30 minutes duration, was stiffly contested, though the Celtic had rather the best of it, and the result was – Celtic, 1 goal; St Mirren, 0 goals.
