These clubs met in the undecided North Eastern (Glasgow) Cup tie on the former’s ground, Celtic Park, Parkhead. There was a crowded attendance of spectators. The home team opened with a blinding storm of wind and rain in their faces, and not long after the start their goal fell to McPherson. Both teams played strenuously, and seemed fairly matched.
After the change of ends, the play was very much confined to the Cowlairs territory, and their goal would have fallen several times but for Duff’s magnificent goalkeeping. Latterly the Cowlairs men were almost wholly on the defence, and they kept it up successfully till within a few minutes of the close, when Groves, getting the ball well centred for him, drove it past Duff with a low shot to the right.
There was no further scoring, and the game thus ended in a draw of one goal each.

The home team kicked off against the wind, and amidst heavy rain. The Cowlairs at first had the pressure, but a smart run by Kelly brought the ball to the other end. McLeod cleared, however, and the visitors' right wing got away. The game now assumed a fast character, and the ball traversed the field quickly from end to end, but the shooting was not dangerous. Play, however, gradually settled down on home territory, and at last a grand shot by Calderwood took effect. First goal for the Cowlairs. From the kick-off the Celtic had a break away, but Cowlairs returned again, and play soon got round the Celtic again. A free kick brought temporary relief, and thereafter Groves seemed in a fair way to get a chance. A corner kick fell to the home team, but nothing came of it, and bit by bit the visitors regained ground until McLaughlin was called upon to save. A free kick and a couple of throw-ins gave the Celtic some anxiety; but they ultimately got clear, and the right wing made tracks for Duff. The parting shot was just an inch wide, and, although a goal was claimed, it was not allowed. Another strenuous and sustained attack followed, but Duff was equal to the occasion. Towards half-time the aspect of the game changed, the Celts doing the pressing; but could not break down the Cowlairs defence.
And at half-time the result was – Cowlairs, 1; Celtic, 0.
On resuming, play was confined for a long time, almost without a break, to the Cowlairs end of the field; but, as in the previous half, the visitors' defence seemed impregnable. A smart shot by Groves was deftly met by the custodian, and thereafter the Cowlairs paid a brief visit, but a long run by Maley restored matters to their former position. The game was latterly not a pleasant one to look upon. Again and again the Celts crowded round their opponents' goal, and on one occasion, although Duff got his goal clear, it was claimed that the ball was through; but again the referee gave his judgement against the home team. A free kick enabled the Cowlairs' right wing to get down the field, but Reynolds interrupted, and the old style of things was resumed. At last, after fully half an hour, amidst tremendous cheering, Groves got through an equaliser. The Celtic continued to pepper away at the Cowlairs' goal, and the latter hardly managed across the centre line. No further scoring took place.
The result was a draw- 1 goal each.
