Review
The Motherwell kicked off, and for a short time looked as if they would take the initiative in scoring, but the Celtic forwards got possession of the ball, and after a nice piece of play registered the first point. The Motherwell men pulled themselves together after this, and gave the Celtic backs and goalkeeper some hot work to do, but Reynolds proved himself a strong rock of defence to his side. The Motherwell forwards were ultimately successful in beating McLaughlin amidst great excitement. The Celtic forwards broke away several times, and although Sneddon punted out some good shots. At half-time the score stood- Celtic, 3; Motherwell, 0.
In the second half the play became somewhat rough, and feeling ran high amongst the spectators. McNaughton, of the Carfin Shamrock, who played for Motherwell, had one or two brilliant runs along the right wing, but came to grief on each occasion at the hands of his old club mate, Reynolds. Madden, from an individual run in the centre, scored for the Celtic the only point registered in the second stage of the game, the two Motherwell backs having fallen over each other, and left a clear goal for the Celtic centre forwards.
The game thus ended in favour of the Celtic by 4 goals to 1.
