Stats
From newspaper reports from the time.
Played on the ground of the Northern at Springburn. Northern kicked off, and early besieged their opponents. The Celts got away, and, helped by a couple of fouls against the Northern, looked dangerous, but the Northern cleared in a highly creditable manner, and thus early compared favourably with their opponents. A temporary look-in for the Northern followed, and then the Celtic assumed the offensive, a good shot by Campbell going over the bar. Ultimately the Celtic came away, and with one of their old combined runs were soon in close proximity to the Northern goal. The Northern soon returned to the attack, and a scrimmage taking place at the Celtic's goal, the ball was rushed through. This reverse somewhat wakened up the Celts, and a prolonged attack was made on the northern goal. The Celtic experienced hard lines, a beautiful shot by Madden striking the post and rebounding into play. As giving an idea of the stiff nature of the game, it may be stated that the only goal of the first half – the Northern's – was scored ten minutes before half-time.
On resuming, the Celtic seemed determined to regain their loss, as they hemmed in their opponents. The Northern withstood their efforts for a while, but ultimately Dowds found an opening with a splendid shot, making the scores equal. Notwithstanding the strong defence of the Northern the Celts in the second half certainly did the most of the pressing, but their shooting was somewhat erratic. A miskick by a Celt gave the Northern a corner, and it being well placed the Celtic goal had another narrow escape. Bell luckily being in a good position to fist out. Groves then dribbled the ball down the field, and it went through, out of Brady's reach. The goal was disputed as offside, but the referee finally allowed the point. Till the close, the game was stiffly contested, while the excitement was kept at fever heat. The Northern tried hard to equalise, but unsuccessfully, and the result was:- Celtic, 2 goals; Northern, 1 goal.
