Review
The Third round ties possessed two matches of interest, Celtic v Clyde and Third Lanark v Rangers.
Dowds scored after about half an hour, and Madden added a second just before the interval, giving Celtic a half-time score of two goals to nil.
Madden scored a third goal for Celtic just after the restart, and Dowds added a fourth. Another goal was added before time was called.
Result – Celtic, 5 goals; Clyde, 0.

Clyde kicked off. Kelly interposed, but the visitors kept up the attack, and in a short time the ball was sent past on the Celtic side. The Clyde played up in dashing style, and continued to keep the Celts on alert.
Madden got away, and a smart attack was made on the Clyde goal, but it came to nothing, and very soon the home team again had to act on the defensive. Play was not of a very pretty description; fouls were frequent, and after about 15 minutes’ play one of the Clyde players, Cullen, had to retire hurt. After the delay caused by this accident, the Celts put on the pressure, and had a free kick, following which McKeown sent in a well placed ball, which Fortune had to fist out, while half a minute later the home team again looked very like scoring. Notwithstanding their crippled condition, the Clyde continued to have the full share of the play, the forwards rendering a good account of themselves, while the defence was good, and the Celts were not allowed to settle down.
When the game was about half an hour old, Dowds got away, and, dodging the half back, sent in a flying shot. This was returned, but before leaving Dowds scored – a backward shot with his heel.
The Celts who were combining better, had repeated tries at the other end; and just before the interval Madden put on a second point, and the first half ended – Celts, 2; Clyde, 0.
The second half was not long started when Gallagher had a good opportunity, but sent the ball over. The Celtic left wing again transferred the play, Madden sent in a fine shot which took effect and number 3 was registered. The home team continued to have the upper hand.
McClair broke away, and the forwards got well up the field in a struggling fashion, but Kelly interposed, and once more play settle down in the visitors’ territory, where Dowds spoilt a good chance. He made amends, however, soon afterwards by scoring a fourth goal.
The Clyde continued to offer a spirited resistance, Cherrie at half back being particularly prominent.
The result – Celtic, 5 goals; Clyde, 0 goals.

Celtic v Clyde – Played at Parkhead. There was a big attendance. The game was a lively one, and the play open, fast and exciting. Groves was absent from the home team. The Celts were not allowed to monopolise the play. Cullen, of the Clyde was hurt, and had to retire. The Celts played up hard, and Dowds twice sent the ball through. Half-time result :- Celts, two goals; Clyde, nil. On passing over the Clyde were still handicapped by Cullen’s absence. The game was much faster than in the first portion. Madden and Dowds were showing fine forward play. The former scored a third goal with a brilliant shot. The Celts now had the game in hand, and they showed some most effective and fancy dribbling. The play of the visitors degenerated, and the final result was :- Celtic, five goals; Clyde nil.
