League match, played on Celtic Park. The ground was soft and slippery and rather difficult for accurate play. The Cowlairs won the toss, and Coleman started. Maley crossed well into centre, and Campbell shot behind. The Cowlairs right pair, Leslie and Peacock, brought the ball well up, but McKeown interfered, and open work characterised the next fifteen minutes' play. The Celts' forwards were not so smart on the ball, but, when fairly in the run, they initiated some fine dribbles, which were spoiled by indifference at close quarters. They failed to make sufficient allowance in shooting, and the ball invariably went wide. Cowlairs, whose efforts it was thought at first would be more haphazard than it turned out, created a big sensation by sweeping down and scoring the first goal of the match. At half-time the game stood – Cowlairs, 1; Celtic, 0.
The Celtic came out at the interval to force the game. The Celts kept up the pressure and Boyle headed the ball past Duff amid great cheering. Tom Maley shot a second goal. Up till the close the Celts had the most of the play and Boyle, Coleman and Campbell added a goal each. The Celtic won by 5 goals to 1.
