Ross set the ball in motion. Gillespie at the outset calling forth Bell's defensive powers. From the kick-off hostilities were carried into the Clyde's territory, where the home team experienced a great deal of ill-luck. Nothing prettier could have been desired than the one dodgy run which Clyde's forwards participated in at this period of the game, and which led up to the first goal, taken by McClair. the Celtic soon equalised. The Clyde challenged the point, but the referee decided in favour of the home team. From the kick-off the Clyde came down on Bell, whose vigilance was evaded by Johnstone, and at half-time the Clyde led by 2 goals to 1 goal.
On hostilities being resumed, the Celtic started in grand style, and had ordinary luck followed their efforts they would have scored. Clyde slowly crept up the field, and, after one or two tries at Bell's goal, Ross sent the ball through for a third time. There was no further scoring, and the game ended:- Clyde, 3 goals; Celtic, 1 goal.
