Celtic v Third Lanark – This match was played at Parkhead. The attendance numbered quite 5000 spectators. The home team was weakened by the absence of McMahon (who was injured in the match against Sunderland on the holiday), and M. Dunbar was introduced on the left with Campbell, and a trial was given to Clifford in the centre. The visitors were without Campbell, who was expected to play. The Third Lanark opened well, and scored in the first few minutes of the game against a strong wind. This reverse nettled the Celtic, who immediately attacked with great spirit. Some splendid shots were ably parried by Downie. This was followed by a second goal a few minutes later. The ball rebounded off Smith on its progress through the goal. Half-time: Celtic two goals; Third Lanark, one goal. The wind moderated in the second half. Clifford missed an open goal after a splendid run by Davidson and Blessington. The Celtic kept their opponents well in hand and were more frequently attacking. Result:- Celtic, two goals; Third Lanark, one goal.
