Celtic v Third Lanark – Played on the ground of the former in the presence of 8000 spectators. The ground being frost-bound, the referee declared the Glasgow cup tie off, and a friendly was played instead. Mucken kicked off, and a fine run by McMahon was stopped by Thomson. After a few midfield exchanges the Third shot past. Miskicks were frequent on both sides. From a piece of sustained pressure by the Celts the Third’s goal almost fell. Good tackling by Love let the Third away, but nothing resulted. The Celts now lost a good chance by weak shooting. Campbell and McMahon bothered Lochhead, and Thomson could not find an opening. Splendid work by the Celts was spoiled by Maley shooting over. The first goal fell to the Celts from McMahon. Turnbull next scored for the Third. Half-time result: – Celtic, two goals; Third, one goal. On resuming, the Celtic scored again, but the game was a farce, the players treading the dangerous ground gingerly. Open play followed. Result: – Celtic, three goals; Third Lanark, two goals

These teams met at Parkhead to play off the semi-final tie for the Glasgow Cup. On the referee, Mr Scott, Dalmuir, inspecting the ground he found it frostbound and unfit for a tie, and a friendly only was played.
The Celtic kicked off, and it was at once evident from the way the players slipped and fell that the ground was hard and dangerous. The players were cautious, and risked as little as possible.
The Third had the first try for goal, but Turnbull shot wide of the mark. Then Celtic pressed, and the Third’s goal had a narrow escape from downfall. No real football was indulged in, some of the efforts of the players to get at the ball calling forth loud laughter all round the field. The first corner fell to the Third, but it came to nothing.
After 20 minutes’ play McMahon scored the first goal of the match with a fine shot, but the Third had hard lines before this, a terrific shot hitting the crossbar and rebounding into play.
A few minutes afterwards Turnbull equalised for the Third, Cullen slipping and failing to reach the ball. McKay who was playing with a bandaged hand, had to be led off the field through Doyle coming in contact with him.
The Celtic put in some fine work after this, Madden nearly scoring, and Doyle was cheered or dribbling down by himself and shooting for goal. Downie just managed to save, but immediately afterwards Madden beat him with a beauty.
Half-Time – Celtic, 2 goals; Third Lanark, 1.
On restarting, and after five minutes’ play, Madden scored the third goal for the Celts very cleverly. The Third had an occasional run and shot for goal, and on the whole the game was evenly contested.
Just about the call of time the Third, who had been pressing hard, scored their second goal, thus maintaining their reputation for surprises at the finish. There was some excitement towards the close, as the Third were playing with great briskness, and put on a third goal; but the whistle had previously been blown for off-side, and the point was disallowed.
The Celts were rather surprised at the dash of their opponents, and tried hard to reverse the score. Towie had a fine chance, but missed it.
The result was – Celtic, 3 goals; Third Lanark, 2 goals.
