CELTIC V LONDON CALEDONIAN – Played at Celtic park. The Celtic were greatly handicapped by the absence of McMahon, Campbell, Kelly and Maley, who were engaged in the International contest with England, but their places were ably filled by McCann and Byrne at half-backs and Mulvey and McCann on the left wing forward. Donald Sillars, of the Queen’s Park, helped the Caledonians. Prompt to time Hunter kicked off, and the Londoners in a body rushed down on Cullen, but Reynolds checked them in their career, and sent the ball well down to Madden. Mulvey received the pass and shot through the first goal for the Celts. Shortly after the kick-off the Celtic right got on the ball , and by a beautiful piece of passing got past all opposition. Blessington having the credit of the second goal. M’Cann from midfield scored a third goal. When the whistle sounded at half-time the Celts lead by three goals to nothing. With the wind at their backs the Caledonians began to show up much better, but the home defence seemed too good. Doyle, in particular, baffled all efforts to score. The Celtic front rank in a body, by neat passing, got within range of Stirling, A good shot by Blessington was smartly got by Stirling, and sent well down the field. The Celts by this time has got the measure of their opponents, and were playing pretty easy. From a foul in the centre of the field, Howie sent in a good shot, but Culen was on the alert and threw it down. The Caledonians were forced to concede a corner, but nothing resulted from it. Stirling saved his charge time after time from downfall. Result: – Celtic, three goals; Caledonians, nil.
