THIRD LANARK v CELTIC – At Cathkin Park in delightful weather, before 4000 or 5000 spectators. The Celts were without Reynolds, Maley, and Madden : the Volunteers were without Thomson, but were again assisted by the Thistle. The Celts started against the breeze, and were early in attacking, but the home half-backs held them, and latterly the home forwards got into play, and the game became open and interesting. The Volunteers’ front line showed some pretty play. In fifteen minutes a sharp attack was finished by Blessington opening the scoring. M’Mahon was performing cleverly in the centre. The Volunteers before the interval put on a determined and persistent pressure, but it only brought corners. Latterly McMahon just missed scoring at the other end. At half-time the score stood: – Celtic, one goal; Third Lanark, nil. Crossing over a goal to the good, the Celts resumed, and after some midfield play the Volunteers took up a strong position. Their attack was in the finest form, and in meeting it the Parkhead representatives several times resorted to shady tactics. A couple of accidents to the Volunteers temporarily stopped the game. After twenty minutes’ play Gibb finished a long siege by putting on number two for his side. In twenty-eight minutes McMahon got a third point, and at the close the score was :- Celtic, six goals; Third Lanark, nil.
