Trivia
- On way to third league title
Review
(from CelticFC https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/december/21/on-this-day-in-celtic-s-history—december-21/)
On their way to their third championship, Celtic welcomed Dumbarton on this day in 1895 and made their intentions known with a 3-0 win just a week after thrashing Rangers 6-2.
Allan Martin, Sandy McMahon and Dan Doyle (below) were the men who scored the goals in Celtic’s second-last game of the campaign but the Ibrox side still had four games to play after beating Third Lanark 3-2 on the same day the Celts were beating Dumbarton.
At that point Celtic had 28 points to Rangers’ 20 with the Ibrox side mathematically still in the race.
Rangers beat Dumbarton after the New Year but then drew against both Clyde and St Mirren, meaning that the final day fixtures on February 29, when Celtic beat Third Lanark 2-1 and the Ibrox side beat Dundee 3-1 didn’t have any bearing on the championship which the Hoops took by four points.
