"A more miserable day to stand around a playing pitch could hardly be imagined" according to The Scottish Referee.
The pitch was treacherous, the rain incessant and Celtic changed strip at half time from the green and white vertical jersey to the all green, because "the Port" were playing in black and white vertical stripes and it was difficult to tell the teams apart. Celtic's last two goals from Hamilton and McMenemy were scored virtually in the dark
