Trivia
- Willie Grassam‘s second league match and final game for Celtic. Surprising as he was signed as a big name for the club.
- Celtic wear black armbands to remember one of the clubs biggest supporters since its inception: Irish Nationalist Hugh Murphy (who died 2 days before).
- Celtic wear the hoops for very first time today (some say it was match two games earlier):
- “For some time the change rather tickled one, but latterly the alteration was appreciated“.
Review
This may or may not have been the first time Celtic played in “hoops” but if they did, it was an inauspicious start.
Third Lanark who would go on to win the Scottish League this year notched an important victory, inspired as they now were by ex-Celt Johnny Campbell.
Celtic were totally outplayed in the first half, and although Alec Bennett pulled one back in the second half, they made no further progress against a good Thirds side.
A propos of this game The Scottish Referee says “The Celts appeared in new jerseys on Saturday – horizontal stripes of green and white, instead of vertical. For some time, the change rather tickled one, but latterly the alteration was appreciated. The players also wore black armlets in memory of Mr Hugh Murphy, who died during the week”.
