A FAMOUS football with strong Croy connections is now to go on show in the village on a permanent basis.The 100-year-old ball, used in the 1904 Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park, was presented to Croy Miners' Welfare Charitable Trust at a presentation concert in the Pender Hall in the new miners' welfare hall on Sunday.Croy's footballing legend, Jimmy Quinn, scored all three of Celtic's goals on that occasion, to give them the championship.The ball was bought by Croy man Dick Pender at an auction in Christie's in Glasgow in 1989, and patiently restored by Jim Lochrie.It has now been given into the ownership of Croy Miners' Welfare Charitable Trust, and Croy Historical Society will act as custodians for them. A display case has been bought and the ball will form a unique feature of the society's archives.Dick Pender handed the ball over to Shamus Coleman of the Historical Society on Sunday night.
