Match Pictures | Matches: 19051906

Trivia

  • Christmas Day friendly fixture
  • Played at Manor Ground, Plumstead.
  • Note Celtic 2nd half substitute, Mitchell on for injured Orr.
  • Arsenal as we know it now was still at this point based in South London hence “Woolwich Arsenal”, they moved to North London in 1913.
  • Arsenal wore red shirts because one of the members had a friend who played for Nottingham Forest & the club sent down a set of jerseys in 1886. They first wore red with white sleeves on 4th March 1933 vs. Liverpool.

Review

Mega rare postcard from Christmas Day when Celtic met Arsenal at Plumstead in 1906 and beat them 2-0. Very unusual to see the Celtic goalie in action wearing the Hoops.
