  • In the Chorley by election in England the RC vote is sought by the Unionist party with letters being sent to Catholic households.

Review

A defeat, as heavy as it was unexpected. Start of downward plunge and loss of League Championship. No excuse, other than that Aberdeen raised their game, and Jimmy Quinn wasn’t playing. Huge disappointment to massive travelling support.

Celtic were first dangerous, McMenemy just missing and Wilson clearing later with King beaten. Mulrooney then saved well from Scorgie, but Aberdeen returned and Wilson scored with a fast drive.

A fine run by McAtee was followed by King saving from Brown, and Aberdeen again getting down Wood scored the second goal from an accurate centre by Soye.

Celtic were weak at back, and prior to the interval Travers added a third goal.

Celtic had most of the play on resuming but McMenemy missed an open goal and Browning later sent behind from a good position.

King saved finely from McAtee and Aberdeen attacked for Dodds to clear on the line from Scorgie.

In the closing stages Aberdeen were equally superior, but nothing further was scored.
