In their match against the Celtic at Stark’s Park, Kirkcaldy, Raith Rovers, in the first half, at any rate, looked like registering their first win of the season. So sustained was their attack that the Celtic defence was fully stretched, and had they got their reward the would have crossed over with a lead. In the first minute they were denied a penalty when McNair handled. After the interval the Celtic were seen at their best, and two goals scored in quick succession, McColl getting the first, and Gallagher the second. A determined effort was made by the home team towards the close, but the Celtic defence held out. There were 5,000 spectators.

The Celtic forwards were guilty of the usual crop of blunders, and incapable of delivering even one good shot at Raith Rover’s goal in the first half of a moderate game. Fortunately for the leaders Shaw attended carefully to the few questions asked him prior to the interval, and a cross from McAtee was too accurately directed or, McColl might have missed heading past Wallace, as he had previously done when presented with an open goal. Gallagher alone was concerned in the visitor’s second goal, and, one need scarcely add, was the best forward on view. As the Celts only drew at Kirkcaldy last season, they gained a point in comparison with their latest visit, and having done the same against Hibernian, stand exactly as at this period last season, since defeat was their practice at Ibrox and Tynecastle in consecutive seasons, and St Mirren’s triumph at Parkhead remains the only fresh blot on their register.
