The possibility of Kilmarnock being the first club to score three consecutive victories at Celtic Park acted as an incentive, upon both teams, and the game had all the intensity of a cup-tie. The home forwards showed much of their customary skill, accuracy in shooting that astonished by its unexpectedness after to many previous failures, yet Kilmarnock had an excellent chance given them to win when Culley had to deal only with Shaw, and lost because one of their own players did what Blair, Hamilton, and Murray had made impossible for any of the Celtic forwards. Apart from being indebted to an opponent for the winning goal, Celtic were immeasurably the better at half-back and in front. It was the unflinching defence of Kilmarnock’s rear-guard that made a Celtic victory hinge upon a trifling slip.
