CELTIC WEAK IN ATTACK
A frost-bound surface does not favour intricate movements nor a dazzling individualism, hence the failure of Celtic forwards to make any impression at Airdrie, though Bernard had occasional reminders from McColl and McLean. But the all-important goals were the work of Dodds and Brown, sectional defenders and there was little merit in victory resulting from a penalty kick and a free kick. Still, as Dodds was compelled to retire early in the second half the mishaps were not all on one side, and Airdrieonians might have again recorded a victory over the ex-champions but for one of their forwards being overawed by the proximity of McNair, a veteran who seems to exercise a mesmeric influence over the majority of young forwards. How little the Parkhead club owe to their forwards this season is evidenced by their having to rank below Rangers, Morton, Kilmarnock and Ayr United in the “goals for” aggregate column.
