Celtic, who had the assistance of a very strong wind, were almost continuously on the offensive. McInally was early prominent with a raking left foot drive, which Blair turned aside in characteristic style. Indeed, Blair stood between Celtic and several goals ere the interval was reached. The teams turned on level terms, but shortly after the interval McLean got the only goal of the game with a shot that Blair had absolutely no chance of saving. There was no more scoring. Kilmarnock played throughout the second half with ten men, Donnelly having been injured in the first half.
