Trivia
- The Glasgow Herald notes that Crilly featured for Alloa after being retransferred there so is absent at Dens where a Dundee team featuring ex-Celt David (Prophet) McLean and the legendary Wee Troupie made it hard for Celtic to grind out a result. LINK
- Debut for James Murphy who scored the winner in the dying minutes, so quite a start.
- The Glasgow Herald also reports on the progress of the Free State Constitution Bill.

CELTIC GET THROUGH ON TIME
Dundee and the Celtic played a strenuous game at Dundee before about 27,000 spectators. The Celtic opened with neat football, but Dundee kept them out, and afterwards set up a spirited attack. McLean called on Shaw several times with long shots. Dundee’s goal had a narrow escape when Fotheringham ran out and missed a centre by McAtee. Aimer, however, had stepped into goal, and he succeeded in clearing when a goal seemed certain. There was no scoring in the first half, The Celtic attacked immediately after the interval, and Fotheringham saved brilliantly a splendid shot by Cassidy. Owing to injuries to A. McLean the Celtic had to rearrange their front line. McLean and McAtee changed places, and for a considerable time Dundee dominated the game. Their shooting, however, was not satisfactory, although McLean and Cowan experienced hard luck with powerful tries. McStay was crippled, and the Celtic made a remarkable shuffling of their team. Cassidy was withdrawn from centre-forward to right back to allow McStay to take McAtee’s place at outside left. McAtee assumed the role of leader, and despite their weakened state the Celtic put up a strong display in the closing stages. Three minutes from time Murphy scored after a corner kick which Gallacher forced off Rankine. Dundee protested against Mr Dougary’s decision to give a corner kick. The Celtic were lucky to obtain full points.
The Glasgow Herald – Sep 25, 1922
Celtic were the more aggressive side at the start, McAtee sent in a fine centre, which was saved by Rankine. McLean on the Dundee side was next prominent, but his drive was easily held. On the other side A. McLean was a persistent trier, and the Dundee defence was severely tested. A free kick taken by D. McLean was cleverly held by Shaw. There was no scoring in the first half, though the home goal had some narrow escapes. Early in the second half Fotheringham brought off a clever save from Cassidy. A corner to Dundee followed, but Rankine shot over. Six minutes from time Murphy scored the only goal of the match.
