Match report from The Scotsman, 5th March 1923

ONE GOAL WIN FOR CELTIC
The Celtic, without the services of Cringan, Gallagher and Cassidy, succeeded in defeating Alloa at parkhead, Glasgow. On a heavy ground the play was wonderfully fast and clever, and the visitors on their second half showing were unlucky not to secure a point. Seven minutes after the start Murphy sent in a shot which struck a post and entered the net. Thereafter Alloa gave as much as they got, but their finishing was poor, and several likely openings were missed. In the second half Alloa attacked in determined fashion, and twice Shaw saved well from Fyfe and Craig. Forrest followed with another fine effort, which seemed to have Shaw beaten, but the ball rebounded from the bar into play. Both sides were strong in defence. Shaw, McNair, and W. McStay were outstanding for the Celtic, and in a clever but unfortunate Alloa side Orrock, McGregor, McNally, T. Craig, and Forrest were best. The attendance would be about 6000.

The Glasgow Herald – Mar 5, 1923

Alloa made a fine stand at Celtic Park, and on the run of play were due a division of the points, their forward play being cleverer and neater than shown by the Celtic attack, but the rather diminutive Alloa forwards could make no impression on the solid and resourceful defence of McStay, McNair and Shaw, and a well-taken goal by Murphy ten minutes from the start secured the points for Celtic.
