CLYDEBANK'S GOOD DRAW WITH CELTS
Celtic were visitors at Clydeholm before 9000 spectators. From the start play was keen. Clydebank were first to attack, but McGovern failed to improve on a cross from Fleming, and next minute Gallacher worked his way close on Wallace before he was dispossessed. McLean had the first likely shot, Wallace punching clear. As the result of a foul kick for Clydebank just outside the penalty area Scraggs drove hard into goal, but McStey saved. Both goals ran narrow escapes at the close of half an hour's play, Shaw tipping over the bar a hot shot from Bell, and Wallace saving with his left hand a smart header from Cassidy. Celtic tried all their wiles to get the lead before the interval, and Gallacher was frequently to be seen on the left wing in his desire to score. As it was, the nearest approach to a count came from Clydebank, and only Shaw's agility saved his charge from a couple of close-range shots. Celtic restarted in great fashion, and the Clydebank defence had a gruelling time, but Scraggs, who was ever in the thick of it, backed by some masterly saving from Wallace, prevented the Parkhead team getting a goal. Gradually the local club assumed the aggressive, Smith led Cringan a dance at times, but McStey and Hilley allowed few chances of getting into close touch with Shaw. The closing ten minutes provided the most thrilling part of the game, for then the Celts pressed most determinedly, and forced several corners, while Wallace, in the last two minutes saved twice from Gallacher and Connolly almost on the goal line.
