Match report from The Scotsman, 7th January 1924

CELTIC ONE GOAL WIN
About 6000 spectators were present at Celtic Park, Glasgow, where the Celtic defeated Hamilton Academicals by a goal. The play throughout was quiet, and neither side gave of their best. The visitors put up a good fight in the first half, but after 25 minutes’ play Connelly, after beating Johnstone, crossed the ball into the goal. Somerville clutched it, but, before he could clear, Cassidy bundled the goalkeeper and ball over the line. Towards the interval the Hamilton Academicals forced the play, and Shaw had to concede a corner in saving from Gillespie. The Celtic did most of the attacking in the second half, but weak finishing spoiled many good chances. Hunter and Sommerville excelled in the Hamilton defence, and forward Miller was outstanding. Hilley, W. McStay, Gallacher, and Connelly did best for the Celtic.

The Glasgow Herald, 7 Jan, 1924

Celtic made progress and were quickly down upon Sommerville, Connelly and McLean sending in shots that gave the Hamilton Academicals’ goalkeeper some trouble. The home side maintained the attack, and when Sommerville had cleared from Connelly he was beaten by Cassidy. Near the end of the first half Hamilton Academicals forced a corner, but made nothing of it. In the second period play again favoured the home side, but the Hamilton defence prevailed to the finish.
