Match report from The Scotsman, 14th January 1924
GOOD WIN FOR CELTIC
It was a fast and interesting game witnessed between Third Lanark and Celtic at Cathkin Park. The conditions underfoot were against good football, and it was difficult for the players to keep their feet. Third Lanark had the better of the opening exchanges, Reid scoring a disallowed goal in the first few minutes. The Celtic began to come more into the game, and 25 minutes after the start Cassidy scored the opening goal, beating Jarvie with a low drive. Three minutes from half-time McLean scored a second goal for Celtic, heading through from a cross by McAtee. Third Lanark improved in the second half. Reid made a breakaway on the right, and, crossing nicely, enabled Walker to head past Shaw. The Celtic, however, again took the upper hand, and, shortly before the end, Cassidy scored a third goal for them with a fine individual effort. Celtic owed their success to the wide passing game they adopted, which suited conditions, while the Third Lanark forwards were very weak finishers. At half-back Third Lanark compared unfavourably with the winners, but all the backs did well. The attendance was about 10,000.

The Glasgow Herald – Jan 14, 1924

Celtic and Airdrieonians each returned victories and thereby lessened the gap between them and the leaders to the extent of one point. Third Lanark at Cathkin Park were little behind their opponents in general play, but Celtic secured the verdict by virtue of better finishing, Cassidy (2) and McLean scoring, against one goal registered by the home centre forward.

Third Lanark were seen to advantage at the start, forcing a corner in the opening minutes. Celtic then pressed, but McLean was stopped by Orr. Third Lanark continued to have the better of the exchanges, but they were unable to break down the Celtic defence. After half an hour’s play Cassidy opened the scoring for Celtic, and close to the interval McLean added the second goal. The second half was keenly contested. Celtic had the advantage of the run of play, but a rally by the home side resulted in a goal being scored by F. Walker. Celtic retaliated and scored through Cassidy.
