The Glasgow Herald – Mon 20 October, 1924

Airdrieonians Lead

Airdrieonians won at Greenock and went definitely into the top position, a point ahead of Rangers and Celtic. The Lanarkshire club were fortunate to get the only goal at Cappielow through a blunder on the part of Morton’s goalkeeper, who previously and afterwards had shown rare ability. At Perth Celtic go a point out of their match with St Johnstone, neither side scoring in a game in which the famous Glasgow club enjoyed a measure of good fortune. St Johnstone claimed to have scored on one occasion, and there was considerable feeling shown when the referee disallowed their confident appeal for a goal.

Celtic attacked promptly, but Gallagher missed with his parting shot. St Johnstone then pressed, but they could not break down the visitors’ defence. In the second half Celtic forced two corners, but failed to convert. In the latter stages Celtic had a slight advantage, but could not score.
