The Glasgow Herald – Monday Dec 06, 1924
Celtic in their engagement with Ayr United were strengthened by the return to the team of their noted forward, McLean and they were all through superior in attack to their opponents. Smith, McCloy and McLeod defended splendidly for the visiting side, and it was not until 20 minutes from the end that Celtic’s persistent pressure was rewarded with a goal. Later Gallagher added a second in characteristically clever fashion.

POINTS FOR CELTIC
Celtic returned to winning form when they beat Ayr United at Parkhead, Glasgow, by two goals, but they had to fight hard to get the victory, and only 20 minutes remained for play when Thomson got the opening point. Celtic throughout the game were on top, but Hughes, Smith, McCloy and McLeod put up a great defence, and were never flurried under pressure. Near the interval a header from Fleming was turned out under the bar by Smith. The referee awarded a goal, but after consulting the linesman he changed his decision. Ayr were seldom seen in the game in the second half, and the Celtic got their reward when Thomson scored. Near the finish Gallacher scored the second goal.
