Surprise for Celtic
The afternoon’s surprise was the defeat of Celtic at home by Hamilton Academicals. Celtic rested their noted forward, Gallacher, and in his absence the attack was weak and ineffective against a Hamilton defence that displayed merit. Smartly led at centre by Brown, Hamilton Academical forwards scored two goals and won on their merits, a victory that recalled their sensational Cup-tie victory a few seasons back on the same ground.
The opening stages favoured Celtic, who pressed persistently but were unable to master the strong defence of Hamilton Academicals. The visitors afterwards opened out, and Miller scored from a pass by Kelly. Hamilton Academicals played well in the second half but it was not until five minutes form the finish that Brown scored their second goal.
