Following on from a 0-0 draw with St Johnstone and a 3-0 defeat at Falkirk, the Hoops needed a fillip and they got one when Hearts arrived on league duty on this day in 1928. There was only one goal in it, though, and the 20,000 crowd saw Paddy Connolly (below) net that goal to give Celtic the two points available. Connolly also got the only goal of the game in the next match against Airdrie and went on to score 12 goals that term. In all, he scored 46 goals in 296 appearances for the Hoops between 1921 and 1932 and was one of the biggest stars of the 1920s.
