Hearts provided the opposition on this day in 1929 and a 22,000 crowd at Tynecastle witnessed a 3-1 win for the Hoops.
Jimmy McGrory, Paddy Connolly and Bertie Thomson (below) netted the goals against the side that also lined up against Celtic on the opening day of the season on August 10.
On that day it was McGrory who struck twice in a 2-1 win for the Hoops in a game that was watched by 40,000 supporters.
McGrory, as you would expect, was the club’s to scorer that season with 35 in the league and Scottish Cup.
