- Celtic's five goals were shared by McGrory, Scarff, and Napier and proved too much for the Jags whose only counter was by John Torbet from the penalty spot.
- By defeating top team Partick Thistle Celtic moved to the head of the league table, but they are in trouble with the SFA over a letter they released for publication regarding the manner in which J. Thomson (Hamilton) had refereed the recent Glasgow Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers. There was crowd trouble at the match following a disallowed Celtic “goal” and the ordering off of Celtic player Robert Thomson. The Scottish Football Referees’ Association has written to the SFA demanding that Celtic apologise to Mr Thomson for the contents of the letter that they allowed to be published. [See below].
- The Herald talks of the “Unpropitious” weather attending the games in England which was reflected in the unusual high scoring. Grimsby Town beat Leicester City 8-2, and Sunderland were beaten by champions Sheffield Wednesday 7-2. Aston Villa overcame Blackburn Rovers 5-2. Scots Alex Cheyne, Alexander Jackson and Hughie Gallacher all scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Blackpool whose latest recruits John Shankly and Alex Hutchison did not impress.
- The Duke of Gloucester representing the King was present at the Coronation of the Emperor of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. The Emperor was driven to the Cathedral where the religious ceremony was held in the coronation coach of the ex-Kaiser drawn by six cream-coloured horses. Ras Tafari Makonnen will now be known as King of Kings and Emperor of Ethiopia. Ras Tafari claims to be descended from King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.

CELTIC GO TO THE TOP.
Before an attendance of 25,000, at Parkhead, Glasgow, the Celtic went to the top of the League table in no uncertain manner by defeating Partick Thistle most decisively.
Only during the first twenty minutes did the Thistle show any real fight but the home defence was sound, and prevented Thomson being seriously troubled.
Scarff it was who started the Celtic on their victorious run by scoring with a great shot from 25 yards. That was the beginning of the end, as the home men simply romped through the visitors' defence, and McGrory scored twice inside a ten minutes’ pressure.
The Celtic turned round with a three goals lead.
The Celts had the bulk of the play after the interval, although Torbet scored for the Thistle from a ''penalty" kick. However, three minutes from the end Napier added a fourth goal, and just before the whistle went Scarff scored a fifth.
The Celts played fine football. Their international players were in sparkling form, but it is unfortunate that a wrenched back will keep McGrory from playing on Wednesday against the English League.
