Trivia

  • Falkirk failed to match their form of earlier in the season when they beat Celtic, and goals from McGrory, Alec Thomson, and Charlie Napier, from the penalty spot, sealed a comfortable victory for the bhoys.
  • Low crowds were a sign of the times when work was scarce and money was needed for Christmas gifts, and this match brought out only half of the attendance of the last meeting of these teams in August.
  • In England Sheffield Wednesday the champions suffered a 2-0 away defeat at Middlesbrough on Boxing-day, but had their revenge when the two sides met again on Monday 29th at Hillsborough where in front of a crowd of 18,000 they won by the odd goal in five. Facing a 3-0 deficit at half time, Scot John McKay (ex-Celtic) and George Camsell, reduced the leeway for Middlesbrough, but Frederick Warren, Boro’s Welsh outside-left was sent-off midway through the second half and the score ended 3-2 in Wednesday's favour.
  • A Glasgow girl who was commended recently in the High Court for bravery after giving evidence for the prosecution at the trial of "The Razor King", John Ross, a member of “The Billy Boys” gang, was assaulted by another member of that gang in the Olympia Theatre, Bridgeton in a reprisal for her earlier testimony. The girl was sitting in the theatre on her own when Robert Kelly, a 23 year old married man, assaulted her by striking her on the face with a severe blow which discoloured her eye. This was but one of a series of incidents of molestation by members of the gang the girl had suffered since the trial. Kelly had also followed the girl into a shop on the night previous to the attack and sang, to the tune of a popular song, “John Ross is in jail for you.” Sheriff Wilton sentenced Kelly to nine months imprisonment with hard labour.

CELTIC'S EASY WIN.

Falkirk failed to repeat their victory over the Celtic early in the season, and were soundly thrashed at Celtic Park.

The home team played well within themselves, and won pretty much as they pleased. The foundation of the victory was laid when McGrory finished a clever movement by tipping the ball over the goalkeeper's head. It was an excellently timed effort.

A. Thomson added a second shortly afterwards with a splendid drive from 25 yards, and the third came from a penalty kick taken by Napier in the second half.

While the Celtic were not in sparkling form, they were easily superior in all departments to their visitors, who were never able to shake themselves free of the Celtic's strongly backed-up attack.

Only on few occasions did the Falkirk forwards trouble John Thomson, and the goalkeeper was always well protected by a pair of sound backs.

The team work of the Celtic was far ahead of that of Falkirk, whose only hope appeared to be in occasional raids.

The attendance would be about 7,000.
