- With a Charlie Napier hat-trick and a goal from Alec Thomson, Celtic are cruising with the score at 0-4, when with just 14 minutes to go the bhoys are shocked with a quick 1-2 from young Jimmy Benson. Benson would go on to score 44 for the Perth side in season 1931/32. Celtic hold out for a win with a team that looks to have found the answer to their outside-left problem in the form of Peter Kavanagh, but they fail in the experiment of playing Joe McGhee at outside-right.
- The Scottish Cup sensation was provided by Dunfermline, who had a narrow, but deserved victory over Dundee. The blow was a heavy one to the North. Aberdeen were knocked out a fortnight ago, and on Saturday St Johnstone could not hold the Celtic, so that only Dundee United, who drew with Queen of the South at Dumfries, are left to carry Northern hopes.
- The meeting at Goodison Park between Everton and Liverpool yielded a last and exciting struggle which resulted in Everton strengthening their hold at the head of the League by gaining a victory of two goals to one, and revenging their cup-tie defeat. Liverpool who were the first to score quite held their own in the first half but Everton, much more polished in attack, were the cleverer side, and they well deserved the points.
- It is reported that Mr de Valera had seen Mr Lloyd George, and following this meeting correspondence ensued in which Mr Lloyd George wrote to Mr de Valera, "I thought I had made it clear by my conversation with you, and in my two subsequent communications, that we can discuss no settlement which involves a refusal on the part of Ireland to accept our invitation to free, equal, and loyal partnership in the British Commonwealth under one Sovereign”.

CELTIC WIN AT PERTH
When Thomson put the Celtic four goals ahead 18 minutes from the close of the game at Muirton Park a general exodus from the ground began. The departing crowds were right in their tacit verdict that for practical purposes the struggle was over, but they missed a rousing finish by St. Johnstone.
Benson was the chief figure in this belated spurt, for, after scoring from a penalty kick for "hands," he dashed past McStay and McGonagle to beat Kennaway a second time with a magnificent drive.
Though this burst of scoring came, too late to keep the issue open, it at least served to make the result a hotter reflex of the run of the game. Territorially, there was not much in it, the Perth team quite holding their own in the outfield once they got over their initial stage fright.
But the Celtic were always more subtle and accurate in their movements, and this told heavily in their favour at close quarters. McGhee at outside right did not contribute much till late on, but the others fitted in like the parts in a smooth-working machine.
Thomson's goal was preceded by three from Napier, whose debut as a centre was a complete success. His second goal came by way of a penalty kick, but the other two were masterly efforts.
Kavanagh's tricky and progressive play at outside left would go far to solve the Parkhead management's doubts as to who is their best man for the position.
For St. Johnstone McLaren gave a brilliant display in goal; Wilson was a host in himself at left back; Ferguson developed into a fine constructive half-back; and Benzie and Nicholson were consistently clever forwards.
The drawings, exclusive of stand and tax, were £739, 7s. 11d., representing an attendance of 19,185, which is a record for the ground.
