Trivia

  • With Celtic's forwards missing chances, it is left to Buckhaven-born Alec Thomson to take the game by the scruff of the neck with goals in 50, 52, and 75 minutes.
  • Hearts crashed at Hampden, Queen's Park winning by two goals to one. Rangers, won against Morton by six goals to one, and are now firmly established at the top of the table. With a match in hand, they have two points more than Aberdeen. Celtic share second place as far as points are concerned, but have played one, match more than Aberdeen and two more than Rangers. Aberdeen lost ground when they suffered the fate of the Hearts and fell to Falkirk at Brockville Park.
  • In the English League, Arsenal, with a one goal victory over Newcastle United, drew clear at the top of the table from Aston Villa, who dropped a point to Everton.
  • The text was issued by the British Foreign Office last night of the Note on War Debts which was handed to Mr Stimson, the U.S. Secretary of State, by the British Ambassador in Washington, Sir Ronald Lindsay. The Note, which was simultaneously published in Washington, expresses the conviction of the British Government that the regime of inter-Governmental financial obligations as now existing must be reviewed, and the hope that the U.S. Government will see its way to enter into an exchange of views at the earliest possible moment. In the meantime, however, the next instalment of the British War Debt falls due on December 15, and accordingly the Note asks that while the discussions as to the final settlement of the debt are proceeding all payments of instalments shall be suspended.

CELTIC'S EASY WIN

An attendance of 8000 welcomed East Stirlingshire to Celtic Park.

Celtic soon took a grip of the game, and but for sturdy defence by the visiting backs and goalkeeper would have scored early.

F. O'Donnell made poor use of two splendid scoring opportunities, and a fine shot by Napier was well saved by Crawford. McGrory came into prominence with a couple of good headers.

Celtic persisted in attempting to walk the ball into the net, and so left themselves easy victims to a sturdy defence.

Five minutes after the interval Thomson scored with an unexpected drive, and two minutes later headed in from a corner by F. O'Donnell.
These successes took nearly all the fight out of the visitors, but they wakened-up later, principally owing to Kemp's clever work on the wing, Smith-missing a rare opening.

With fifteen minutes to go Thomson completed his "hat-trick," and Celtic ran out easy winners, although the visitors were unlucky not to score.

East Stirlingshire were plucky if rather erratic. Their attack was scrappy, and appeared to be without understanding. Celtic won well enough, but were far from impressive.

Celtic v E. Stirling Nov 1932

The attack lacked its wonted sting, neither McGrory, who reappeared at centre after several weeks' absence, nor Napier revealing their shooting powers, and it was left to Thomson to save the situation by scoring three goals.
