- Willie MacFadyen goals in 37 and 39 got Motherwell off to a flyer before Frank O'Donnell pulled one back in 43 minutes. In the second half there were no further goals until the 76th minute when it was again MacFadyen who scored only for McGrory to counter in 78 minutes but MacFadyen had the last word, scoring in 82 minutes.
- High scoring was the order of the day in Scottish cup ties, Celtic and Motherwell sharing six goals and Clyde were also emphatic winners. They piled on seven goals against Hamilton Academicals. Other high scorers were St Johnstone (six against Kilmarnock) and Aberdeen (six, against Morton).
- There were no fewer than six draws in the First Division of the English League, and the most notable one was Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Leicester, The top club versus the bottom club. Arsenal’s Scot Alex James (ex-Raith Rovers) who scored the Gunner's goal was matched by Leicester’s Scots, Sandy McLaren (ex-St. Johnstone) in goal and Arthur Lochhead (ex-Hearts) who scored the equaliser.
- A Fascist meeting at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester addressed by Sir Oswald Mosley ended in great disorder and the police were called in to break up fighting.
- 130 people died and over 5,000 were injured in the earthquake that struck Southern California, with the Los Angeles towns of Long Beach, Compton, Huntington Park, Watts, Santa Ana (where there is an Aberdeenshire community), and the country areas between these towns the worst hit. Property damage is estimated at between £8 and £10million. Hollywood escaped with only minor damage. The King has sent a message of sympathy to the President.

CHAMPIONS OUTPACE CELTIC
Motherwell scored a clean-cut win over Celtic at Fir Park, Motherwell, and so thoroughly did the champions outplay their Parkhead rivals that the final score of four goals to two in their favour was actually less conclusive than was their due.
The Motherwell forwards were in one of their brilliant, moods in the first half, and outpaced the Parkhead men almost to the extent of overrunning them. Yet some grand goalkeeping by Wallace and some luck on the part of other defenders kept the champions from scoring for fully half an hour. Even then it was only after McClory had saved a penalty kick taken by Napier that McFadyen netted the first and second goals in quick succession, while Frank O'Donnell reduced the leeway with a smart "snap" goal.
The second half saw the Celtic putting up a remarkably good fight, McGrory and R. Thomson making strenuous bids for the equaliser. Before the centre had headed through one of the latter's crosses, however, McFadyen had bustled through a shot by Wales, and before the finished he scored a fourth goal.
The Motherwell leader, along with McMenemy, touched top form, and Ellis was the best defender on the field, but the whole teamwork and bewildering speed of the forwards accounted somewhat easily for, the Celtic side, which was still further reduced in strength by the absence of McStay and A. Thomson, while the weaknesses at right full-back and on the left wing were again apparent.
The attendance was about 18,000, in sunny weather.
