- In 10 minutes outside-left Charles Rodger put Ayr in front but Frank O'Donnell equalises in 22 minutes. There is no further scoring until late in the game when Terry McGibbon seals Celtic's fate with goals in the 77 and 89 minutes.
- Charlie Napier was lame for an hour of this match, but it does not explain the loss.
- There were some remarkable results in the Scottish League on Saturday, when in most places the games were carried through in wretched weather, rain falling heavily. Perhaps that had something to do with the unexpected happenings. The Rangers, Heart of Midlothian, and the Celtic were all amongst the defeated. It was a bad slip the Rangers made, and when the final reckonings come to he made it may mean the loss of the championship for them.
- The Arsenal improved their position in the English League on Saturday. They were winners by 3-0 against Stoke, and Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town dropped a point. Yesterday (Sunday) the Arsenal gained a Victory at the Parc de Princes, Paris, when they beat Racing Club de Paris 1-0, with Peter Dougall getting their goal in front of a 25,000 crowd. Rodolphe Hiden the French club’s Austrian goalkeeper had a busy day and played well.
- An underground explosion at the Grassmere Colliery Derbyshire resulted in the deaths of 14 miners yesterday.

CELTIC BEATEN AT AYR
Stirring scenes marked the close of the game at Somerset Park, Ayr, where the United achieved a notable performance by defeating the Celtic by three goals to one in a game which had few dull moments.
Until fifteen minutes from the close the issue was in doubt, and then Rodger sent across a ball which Robertson placed into the goalmouth, for McGibbon to score. The next few minutes saw a determined rally by the Celtic, in which both Crum and McGrory failed at close-in chances which went their way. Then just on time Ayr United's forwards scampered ahead and McGibbon once more beat Kennaway, Robertson being carried off the field injured as the whistle blew.
On the opportunities which were presented them in the first half, the Ayr team ought to have had the issue in safe keeping at the interval, although it must be said that Kennaway enhanced his reputation as a goalkeeper. The Celtic were unfortunate to lose the first goal, which was scored by Rodger after the goalkeeper and McGonagle had collided in an endeavour to clear.
Compelled to rearrange their front line, due to injury to Napier, the Celtic forwards found an opening after 25 minutes, O'Donnell, who had gone to inside right, scoring with a fast drive from a cross by Crum.
On equal terms the sides crossed over, and it was not until the closing stages that the United, as already indicated, secured the upper hand.
Less studied in their methods perhaps, the Ayr eleven nevertheless moved with greater speed, and displayed a dash which often nonplussed the visitors' defence.
Kennaway, McGonagle, McStay, Napier, and Crum, for Celtic, and Fleming, McCall, Currie, McGibbon, and Rodger, for Ayr United, were prominent in sides who kept going to the end.
