Trivia

  • Celtic had an easy win against Hamilton with Frank O'Donnell, (2); Johnny Crum, (2), and Chic Geatons in fine goal-scoring form. Accies centre-forward, Park, scored in 16 minutes when Celtic led 2-0.
  • Neither goalkeeper who took part in the last meeting of the two clubs only nine days ago is available, so Falkirk man, John Wallace, comes in for the injured Joe Kennaway (who was off the field for part of the last game), and Jimmy Morgan comes in for ex-Celt, Peter Shevlin in the Accies goal.
  • Two days ago Rangers beat St. Mirren 5-0 in the 1934 Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.
  • Beyond the fact that by scoring two goals and preventing reply from Leicester City at Stamford Bridge yesterday, Chelsea further increased their chances of avoiding relegation, there was nothing for the crowd, of 20,000 to enthuse over.
  • W. A. Oldfield, the first of the Australian cricket tourists arrived in England and visited Harold Larwood, his opponent in the last Test series. The two men declined to give comment, but went on a visit to a local factory where cricket gear is made.
  • Mr J. W. Bell, the Socialist Provost of Greenock, refused to give evidence in the trial at Greenock Police Court yesterday of a local Communist. Provost Bell, who was called for the defence, walked out of the Court. The accused, Daniel Gillies, was charged with having lifted a collection in the streets on January 20, the day “hunger” marchers left for London, without having received the permission of the Magistrates. This was his fifth appearance before the Court on the charge. On two previous occasions Provost Bell was unable to attend.
  • In the House of Commons the Foreign Secretary (Sir John Simon), referring to the “Hands off China” statement issued recently by Japan, said that no danger to peace, to good relations between China and Japan, or to the integrity of Japan, need be apprehended from any policy of the British Government.

EASY WIN FOR CELTIC

CELTIC, 5; HAMILTON ACADS, 1.

At Celtic Park in wet, windy weather, and before a small attendance, Celtic were without Kennaway and Wilson while Hamilton were minus the services of Shevlin, Bulloch, and W. Wilson.

Playing against a stiff breeze, Celtic were soon attacking and Morgan had to throw himself on top of the ball to prevent Divers from scoring.
After five minutes play Celts took the lead, F. O'Donnell accepting a pass from Divers and driving past Morgan. Six minutes later Crum scored a second.

Hamilton made a quick reply. Profiting by slackness on the part of the home defence, Park scored, after the ball had come off the bar.

A free kick on the eighteen yards line was driven home by Geatons eight minutes from the intervaI. Crum added a fourth following a free-kick awarded for an infringement on himself.

The interval found the home team leading by 4-l.

On resuming, the home team continued their pressure, but did not appear specially keen to add to their score. Dempsey forced Wallace to his knees with a hard shot, and eight minutes from the end F. O'Donnell scored from close-in.
