CELTIC BEATEN

RANGERS WIN BENEFIT MATCH AT PARKHEAD

CELTIC, 0; RANGERS, 4.

Celtic were outclassed on their own ground last night when they were beaten by four goals to nil by Rangers in a benefit match for James McGrory, before a crowd of about 10,000.

Play opened quietly, both teams displaying clever foot works, the first thrill coming when Kinnear, taking advantage of slackness on the part of the home, defence drove in a fast shot which Kennaway put over the bar for a corner. A minute later Dawson had to save twice in almost as many seconds and play became much faster.

Fiddes, Rangers' latest recruit, was prominent with some neat footwork and a good run by Clancy ended in Buchan shooting over.

Dawson was again severely tested by Buchan and Delaney drove the keeper's clearance high over the bar. Buchan then let Dunn clean through, but with only Dawson to beat the centre put over.

Rangers were prominent with some fine passing and Fiddes tested Kennaway, Kinnear following suit immediately after.

Alter twenty-five, minutes play Main drove in a fast shot which Kennaway could only push out and Gillick promptly netted. Celts began to press after this reverse, and following some clever passing, Dawson brought off a fine one-handed save from Dunn, later saving on the ground from McStay.

Two minutes before the interval Main picked up the ball close in, and had no difficulty in beating Kennaway .

Just on the interval Napier injured his knee and had to be taken off. He resumed alter the interval, taking up the outside position.

Rangers continued to display more method, Celtic's movements being crude in comparison, only the defence showing any confidence. The Celtic forwards had three great tries for goal but failed to score. Napier returned to the inside position, and the attack moved much better, although Delaney made poor use of an excellent cross from the left.

The finishing of the home team was very weak, as, even with Dawson out of his goal, three of the forwards failed to score with as many tries.

Main, Venters, and Kinnear dominated the play for a time, with cross-field-passes, and but for the sterling defence of the home backs, ably assisted by McStay, Rangers' would have gone further ahead.

Just before the finish Fiddes went through to score. Kinnear adding a fourth a minute later.

Celts were outplayed, and yet they appeared to have as many scoring chances as the winners.

Main, Venters, and Kinnear were fine attackers for the Rangers. Craig and McDonald excelled in the middle line and Dawson was very safe.

Only Kennaway, the backs, and McStay played to form for the Celtic
