- Celtic took the lead in 5 minutes courtesy of Jimmy Delaney and 6 minutes later Jimmy McGrory added a second goal. St Johnstone hit back almost immediately and ex-Morton & Partick centre-forward Charles Lyle, making his debut for the Perth side, pulled a goal back and then in 22 minutes levelled the scores, but five minutes before the break Jimmy McGrory got his second, and Celtic's winning goal.
- Rangers were three goals down to Dundee at Ibrox but a penalty award allowed them to get back in the game and go on to win 4-3, while Celtic were perhaps fortunate to leave Perth with the points after a hard game with St Johnstone. Celtic move up to seventh place after 3 games played with Rangers top having played 4.
- The civilian population of Addis Ababa, the Abyssinian capital, have been officially warned for the first time of what may be expected if Italian aeroplanes bomb the town. A printed decree, signed by the Emperor, was distributed to 10,000 persons at the market in the town on Saturday warning of the dangers of high explosive and poison-gas bombs that the Italian air force will use.

CELTIC WIN BY ODD GOAL
Opportunism by McGrory in the early stages of the game at Muirton Park, Perth, gave the Celtic their victory over St Johnstone by three goals to two.
Neither side spared themselves, and thrill followed thrill. St Johnstone should have scored in the opening minutes, Adam heading weakly over with no one but Kennaway to beat. In five minutes Delaney gave Celtic the lead following a piece of delightful forward combination. Five minutes later, McGrory scored a second goal. The centre chased a long ball with Littlejohn the home centre-half, and when the later failed to clear, McGrory nipped in, and scored easily.
Following these set-backs, the Saints played with more purpose, and the Celtic defenders were kept busy. The visitors concentrated their attack up the middle of the field but St Johnstone were more determined in front, and in fifteen minutes Lyle scored cleverly and repeated his success in twenty-two minutes.
With the score level the pace was maintained and the balance rather favoured St Johnstone. Five minutes from the interval, however, Littlejohn was again caught napping by McGrory, who ran through on his own to score.
In the second half, play was quieter, and the defenders were on top until near the end, when both sides came near to scoring. Celtic were faster on the ball than the home men, particularly in front, but otherwise there was little between the teams except at centre-half, where Lyon, on the one hand was outstanding, and Littejohn, on the other, erratic and rash.
For the winners, McGonagle, Lyon, Delaney, and McGrory were all outstanding. St Johnstone's rearranged side did well generally. Welsh was the outstanding defender. Baxter and Smeaton, the reserve wing half-backs both justified their inclusion, and the forwards were the best fielded yet.
Tennant was good on the right wing, and well supported by Adam. Lyle, at centre, put dash into his play, but Nicholson, the other newcomer, was little in the game, his partner, H. Ferguson, being slow.
The attendance was about 10,000.
