Trivia
- Jimmy McGrory's hat-trick and goals from Delaney and Buchan were enough to give Celtic the points though Dunfermline were not overwhelmed completely, and they scored goals through ex-Man City player Bob Syme, Dobson, and ex-Man United player Stewart Chalmers making the score respectable.
- Jimmy McGrory scores another hat-trick to keep up his record of having scored in all 8 games Celtic have played this season. He has now scored 15 goals in 8 consecutive games, but his run is unlikely to continue as he picked up an injury in this Monday evening game which caused him to retire hurt, so is unlikely to start next Saturday. CELTIC'S VICTORY OVER DUNFERMLINE
McGRORY’S THREE GOALS
CELTIC, 5; DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC 3.
Before an attendance of 8,000 Celtic defeated Dunfermline Athletic by, 5 goals to 3, and now assume leadership of the First Division of the Scottish League, their goal average, despite the loss of three goals, being, slightly better than that of Rangers.
Dunfermline are to be complimented on being the first club to score on Celtic Park. They made a very fine appearance, displaying some exceptionally clever football, and during the last fifteen minutes they came very near scoring on several occasions.
McGrory, who scored three goals, sustained a strain to a leg, and left the field shortly before the end. Although Celtic were the more prominent during the opening minutes, Dunfermline were first to score, Syme sending past Kennaway from a rebound off McGonagle.
Celtic drew level a minute later when McGrory beat three opponents to send inside Wilson's left-hand post. Celtic were persistent, and caused the visitors' defenders quite a, lot of anxiety, but the home, forwards were careless in their finishing. McGrory forced, a corner, and from Wilson's clearance Delaney scored.
Dunfermline fought hard, but found the home defence rather too strong, Lyon holding up McGowan splendidly. Ten minutes before the interval, however, Dobson got the equaliser, but Celtic went ahead again when, after a spell of hot attack, McGrory broke clear and, scored.
In three minutes after the resumption Celtic increased their lead, Buchan heading through after Wilson had saved a point blank shot from Crum.
After seventeen minutes McGrory scored his third goal. Getting the ball off a defender to beat the advancing Wilson.
Dunfermline were not done yet however, as five minutes later, taking advantage of some slackness on the part of the home defenders, Chalmers drove hard past Kennaway.
Celtic made a spirited reply, and only Wilson's clever goalkeeping kept the score down. Towards the end Dunfermline took up the attack and made desperate but unsuccessful efforts to reduce the leeway.
