Trivia
- John "Jim" Foley is in goal for Celtic in place of Joe Kennaway, but the luck of the Irish deserts the keeper and though the Herald reporter states that he–together with his opposite number Jerry Dawson–was "worthy of a special mention" he couldn't stop Jimmy Smith's 86th minute header from a corner kick giving Rangers the win.
- Aberdeen top the league on 40 points with Celtic on 38 and Rangers 37 after this result.
- In England, Sunderland the league leaders with a 100% home record lost by 3-1 to Aston Villa at Roker Park.
- Italy justified the bombing and wiping out of a Swedish Red Cross hospital in Dolo, Abyssinia as reprisal for the capture and beheading of two Italian airmen who landed at nearby Daggah Bur. Their severed heads were borne aloft in triumph through Harar.

RANGERS' STAMINA TELLS
CELTIC FALL AWAY AFTER DOMINATING FIRST HALF
Rangers' victory over Celtic by four goals to three at Celtic Park yesterday was a merited one.
After having had a testing time for half of the game, and being one goal behind, they played like a team inspired, and had Celtic completely outclassed before the finish. Celtic faded out very badly, and victory went to the team with superior stamina.
Both teams lacked two regulars in Kennaway and Geatons of Celtic and Brown and Main of Rangers. The home team played Foley and Morrison, and the lbrox club played Winning and Fiddes. The conditions were not of the best, rain falling in a steady drizzle, and the ground being very soft.
CELTICS EARLY LEAD
Celtic opened in impressive style, and Buchan was very prominent for the home team. The inside right shot a ball which Dawson fumbled and Delaney, running in, crashed the ball into the net to put Celtic in the lead three minutes after the start.
Rangers were unsettled by this early reverse, but soon pulled, themselves together, and equalised in ten minutes through Smith. Celtic did the bulk of the attacking in the following play, and McGrory put them ahead after seventeen minutes with a left-foot shot from eighteen yards.
Rangers played desperately hard, but there was no holding Celtic and McGrory scored his side's third goal when the lbrox defence was disorganised by Buchan and Crum.
Rangers fought back and McPhail reduced the leeway with a headed goal before half-time. The second half saw a transformation in the run of play. Rangers took a grip right away and chiefly due to McPhail's brilliance, they struck a great game and overran Celtic.
Midway through the half, McPhail scored the equaliser from a cross by Fiddes, and then Rangers played spirited football. A defeat for Celtic was taking shape, and although they fought heroically, they could not live with the Light Blues.
Six minutes from time Smith headed the winning goal from a perfect cross by Fiddes. The attendance was 55,000.
