Trivia
- Ex-Glentoran outside-left William Gray opened the scoring for Partick in 7 minutes and McGrory equalised on 14 minutes. The right-wing partnership of Peter McKennan and Alex McSpadyen seemed to have caused havoc in the Celtic defence to the extent that John Morrison's penalty miss, late in the game, was attributed to his lack of confidence through the torid time he had facing the Partick wing pair.
- Aberdeen's leadership of the Scottish League lessened after their defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle before a 37,000 crowd. Celtic, held to a draw by Partick Thistle, are now only one point behind Aberdeen with a game in hand. Rangers won by two goals to one at Kilmarnock and are three points behind Aberdeen with three games in hand.
- In England there were ugly scenes again when the crowd invaded the pitch at Middlesbrough when the home side’s George Camsell was injured, and the police had to intervene. Middlesbrough beat Brentford 3-0 with Scot, Benny Yorston, scoring the opener.
- On an afternoon of unequal scoring all 44 matches in the English League produced at least one goal.
- The people of Madrid endured a week-end of terror from the skies. Actual fighting around the capital has been spasmodic and inconclusive, but in air raids by rebel planes about 70 people are reported to have been killed and 300 wounded. Three times yesterday aeroplanes rained bombs on the capital. In one raid 22 planes took part.

CELTIC HELD
PENALTY MISSED AGAINST PARTICK
Partick Thistle made amends for their inglorious display in the Glasgow Cup final by holding Celtic to a draw at Firhill Park, Glasgow.
It was one of the best and most exciting games seen at Firhill this season, and a draw was a good result. From start to finish the play was fast and exciting, and there was a dramatic finish when Paterson, the Celtic left half-back, failed to give his side victory by missing a penalty-kick.
In general play there was little between the sides, the Thistle players rising to the occasion and matching the League champions in skill. McSpadyen and McKennan proved the best wing on the field, and with a little more strength on the left wing Thistle might have secured victory.
Crum and Geatons were the strong men in a Celtic side that was surprised by the power and fighting spirit of their opponents. Both goals were scored in the first half, Gray counting for Thistle following a free kick in eight minutes, and McGrory equalising for Celtic six minutes later.
The attendance was 24,000.
